Frequently Asked Questions

What aspect ratio presets are available?

We offer presets for Instagram (1:1, 4:5), Facebook (1.91:1), Twitter (16:9, 1:1), YouTube thumbnail (16:9), and freeform custom cropping.

What format is the cropped image saved as?

The cropped image is saved in the same format as the original (JPG, PNG, or WebP) to maintain quality.

How do I crop an image to a specific size?

Open your image, then enter your desired width and height in the fields below the crop area and click Apply. You can also use the preset aspect ratio buttons (1:1, 4:5, 16:9) for common social media dimensions.

How do I crop for Instagram without losing the important part?

Use the preset ratio buttons at the top — 1:1 (Square) for standard posts, 4:5 (Portrait) for taller posts — to lock the crop frame to Instagram's exact aspect ratio.

Then simply drag your photo around inside the frame to position the subject where you want it. The bright area shows what's kept; the dimmed area shows what gets cut. You can also pinch to zoom in/out on touchscreens or use the mouse wheel on desktop.

Pro tip: Frame your subject slightly off-center. Instagram's profile grid crops all thumbnails to a dead-center square — a centered face or logo often gets awkwardly sliced in profile view. An off-center subject survives the grid crop intact.

For Instagram Stories/Reels, use freeform mode and set the dimensions to 1080×1920px (9:16).

What's the best aspect ratio for YouTube thumbnails?

YouTube thumbnails are 16:9 at 1280×720px. Click the 16:9 preset button to lock the crop frame instantly.

Design tips: Keep the main subject centered — YouTube's mobile app overlays the video title, channel name, and action buttons on the bottom third. Leave breathing room at the top and bottom so text overlays don't cover faces or key elements.

YouTube requires thumbnails to be under 2MB. After cropping, use our Image Resizer to set exactly 1280×720px, then our Image Compressor to dial in the file size.

Can I crop multiple images at once?

Currently we support cropping one image at a time for precision. After saving your cropped result, you can open another image.

Is cropping really private?

Yes! All cropping happens locally in your browser using cropperjs. Your images are never uploaded to any server.

Does this work offline?

Yes! Once you've visited the page, the cropper works without internet. All processing happens locally in your browser, so you can crop images anywhere — even on a plane.
